AL West-champion Angels resume set at Texas

Baseball Betting Lines

09/25/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Dustin Moseley makes a spot start this evening, as he fills in for Kelvim Escobar when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim continue their three-game series with Texas at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Escobar has been pushed back until this weekend in an effort to give him a little extra rest, as well as allow manager Mike Scioscia the chance to set up his rotation for the postseason.

So, it will be Moseley tonight, as he makes his first-ever start against the Rangers. Moseley has been used mostly as a reliever this season, going 4-3 with a 4.60 ERA.

Texas will counter with righty Brandon McCarthy, who is 5-10 with a 4.87 ERA. McCarthy did not receive a decision on Thursday against Baltimore, but pitched well, scattering five hits over four scoreless innings.

McCarthy is 0-1 in his young career against the Angels with a 4.38 ERA in six games, two starts.

In the opener of this set on Monday, Michael Young hit a home run and had four RBI as Texas recorded an 8-7 victory. Catcher Gerald Laird went 3-for-5 with a double, triple and three runs scored, and also threw out a pair of baserunners for the Rangers, who won for the third time in four games.

Young is three hits shy of reaching 200 for the fifth consecutive season. The only other players with five 200-hit seasons in a row since 1940 are Wade Boggs and Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki, both of whom did it seven straight years. Suzuki's streak is active and includes this season.

Bill White (2-0) took the win in 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief of Armando Galarraga, who gave up five earned runs on four hits in his first major league start, striking out four and walking four. Galarraga, however, could not record the final out of the fifth to factor in the decision.

Ervin Santana (7-14) went 5 1/3 innings, surrendering six earned runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking a pair.

Casey Kotchman hit a two-run homer and Juan Rivera knocked in a pair of runs for the Angels, who have lost four of five and are now a full game behind Cleveland in the race for home-field advantage in the American League playoffs.

LA clinched its third Western Division title in four years with a win over Seattle Sunday.

The Angels have won 10 of their 17 matchups with the Rangers this season and have split the eight meetings in Arlington.
