07/05/2009 - Carson, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Alecko Eskandarian scored the lone goal of the match on Saturday in his Los Angeles Galaxy debut as the club downed the New England Revolution, 1-0 at The Home Depot Center.
Eskandarian was acquired on Wednesday from Chivas USA, and he made quite a first impression, scoring eight minutes into the game and helping the Galaxy (4-3-9) hold off New England for its third win in five games.
The Revolution (4-5-4) applied plenty of pressure down the stretch, but they failed to crack a tough Galaxy defense and have now lost two straight.
Eskandarian couldn't have asked for a better start to his Galaxy career as he found the back of the net just eight minutes into the match.
Todd Dunivant delivered a pinpoint cross from the left wing into the middle of the box for Eskandarian, and he shook free from his defender and placed the ball inside the left post with his right foot.
The lead could have grown to two goals in the 30th minute when Jovan Kirovski's cross was turned on goal by the head of Omar Gonzalez, but the ball was hit right at goalkeeper Matt Reis.
Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders was called into action right before the break when Michael Videira dropped a pass off to Sainey Nyassi at the top of the box. Nyassi drove a hard first-time shot towards goal, but Saunders did well to get down and make the save.
The two teams traded half-chances early in the second half, but the Revs came close to equalizing in the 73rd minute from a free kick.
Kenny Mansally floated the ball into the area from midfield, and Videira got up and turned a header towards goal. The ball appeared to be headed for the bottom corner, but Saunders reacted well and tipped it around the post.
Reis came up with two huge stops to keep the Revs within a goal in the last 10 minutes as Chris Klein's header from six yards was kept out by the keeper, while Reis was forced to tip Dunivant's headed effort over the crossbar.
Saunders was then called upon to make an acrobatic stop on Videira in the 87th minute to preserve the win.

Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Odds
Will he or won't he? Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.
Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.
"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."
Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.
Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.
But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.
Aside from the questions surrounding Terrell Owens, the oddsmakers at MySportsbook.com have concerns over starting quarterback Tony Romo's state of mind and whether he will remain a starting quarterback. It is also not known how players will adjust to new head coach, Wade Phillips.
Here are the football odds as seen at MySportsbook.com and subject to change after February 10, 2007 if not locked in prior to that date.

Super Bowl XLIII isn't even a week old yet and oddsmakers have already released Super Bowl XLIV odds.
Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers winning Super Bowl 43, the New England Patriots are 8/1 favorites to win Super Bowl 44.
Bet Super Bowl XLIV Future Odds
With their 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, the Steelers became the latest NFL champion. But believe it or not, oddsmakers from online sports book MySportsbook.com don't have the Steelers the favorites to win Super Bowl XLIV next season.
That honor belongs to the New England Patriots, who are 8/1 favorites to win despite not even qualify for the postseason in 2008. The Pats also have a major decision to make regarding what to do with Matt Cassel, who played well in Tom Brady's (knee surgery) absence last year but is also a free agent this offseason.
Ironically, the Steelers aren't even oddsmakers second choice to win Super Bowl 44, as the Dallas Cowboys are listed right behind the Patriots at 9/1 despite not making the playoffs themselves. Clearly oddsmakers think the public will hop back on the Cowboys' bandwagon considering the immense talent they have and the opening of a brand new stadium.
After Dallas, then comes Pittsburgh at 10/1, but they share those odds with the New York Giants, who won Super Bowl XLII. The Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers round out the top six teams at 12/1, while the Baltimore Ravens (14/1), Tennessee Titans (16/1), Carolina Panthers (18/1) and Philadelphia Eagles (18/1) complete the top 10.
The NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals got no love from oddsmakers as they were established as a 30/1 long shot to win next year's Super Bowl. They share those same odds with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers – two teams that didn't even qualify for the postseason. Other long shots are the Kansas City Chiefs (100/1), Detroit Lions (100/1), St. Louis Rams (75/1) and Oakland Raiders (75/1).
