08/29/2007 - San Diego, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Mike Cameron homered and Khalil Greene drove in the go-ahead run in a four-run sixth inning, as the San Diego Padres continued to gain ground on NL West-leading Arizona by defeating the Diamondbacks 6-4 at Petco Park.
Greene ended 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored and Josh Bard drove in a pair of runs for the Padres, who have won the first two of this four-game set to draw within one game of the Diamondbacks for the division lead.
Adrian Gonzalez also had two hit and scored twice for San Diego, which continues to lead the wild card race by three games over Philadelphia. The Phillies beat the Mets 4-2 in 10 innings on Tuesday night.
Padres starting pitcher Justin Germano (7-7) got the win, his first since July 15. The right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking three, over six innings.
Conor Jackson went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBI for the Diamondbacks, who have dropped six of nine.
Arizona starting pitcher Brandon Webb (14-9) had arguably his worst outing of the season. The reigning NL Cy Young award winner was touched for six runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking three, in 5 1/3 innings. The right- hander suffered his first loss since July 20, ending a personal six-game win streak during which he allowed only two runs.
It all fell apart for Webb and the Diamondbacks in the sixth inning. Cameron started the frame with a homer to tie the game 3-3. Milton Bradley followed with a single, moved to second on a base hit by Gonzalez and scored the go- ahead run on Greene's base hit.
Kevin Kouzmanoff then bunted and Webb opted to throw to first, but first base umpire Lance Barksdale called Kouzmanoff safe despite replays showing the opposite. Arizona manager Bob Melvin came out to argue the call and was ejected.
When action resumed, the bases were loaded for Bard, who came through with an RBI single for a 5-3 lead. After Geoff Blum lined out to short, Webb forced home another run when he hit pinch-hitter Rob Mackowiak.
Tony Pena then came on for Webb and struck out Brian Giles and Cameron to end the inning and contain the damage.
"At times he was good and then the Cameron homer makes it 3-3 and it seemed to get a little bit out of whack after that," said Melvin of Webb's outing.
Arizona got a run back in the seventh when Jackson homered off reliever Doug Brocail.
However, Heath Bell threw a 1-2-3 eighth and Trevor Hoffman worked the ninth for his 35th save of the season.
"I just wanted to go in there and match [Webb] inning for inning," said Germano. "I knew it was going to be a tough game to get some runs on him, but we've done it before so my job was to go out there and keep the game close."
Arizona got a run in the first when Jackson doubled home Orlando Hudson.
San Diego went ahead in the second when Greene doubled home Gonzalez and scored on Bard's sacrifice fly later in the frame.
Webb, though, helped his cause with an RBI double in the fourth to tie the game. Stephen Drew's ground out in the fifth plated Eric Byrnes with the go- ahead run.
Game Notes
Melvin was ejected for a third time this season...Cameron has 18 HRs this season...Kouzmanoff ended 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to seven games...Jackson's HR was his 11th.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup
September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com. The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.
Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to name a few. Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR. They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.
The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer. Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
