Dallas, Houston settle for draw in opener

03/27/2010 - Frisco, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Atiba Harris answered Mike Chabala's goal within two minutes and FC Dallas tied the Houston Dynamo 1-1 on Saturday at Pizza Hut Park in the MLS season opener for both clubs.

Chabala scored his first MLS goal in the 36th minute, but Harris equalized in the 38th, as the Texas rivals settled for a draw to open the season.

Dallas' Jeff Cunningham, who led the league with 17 goals last season, nearly fired his side into the early lead when he got a chance against Houston goalie Pat Onstad but couldn't slip his shot by the veteran.

Brad Davis bounced a shot just side of the right post in the 21st for Houston, and Dominic Oduro drove a shot right to Dallas goalie Dario Sala in the 30th.

Oduro and Davis combined to set up the opener, and Chabala converted a lunging shot just inside the post.

Dallas answered quickly, with David Ferreira setting up Harris, who curled his shot just inside the right post past a diving Onstad from 18 yards.

Cunningham had two great chances in the opening 30 minutes of the second half but failed to convert and Dynamo sub Luis Angel Landin just missed a chance at the left post late in the match.

Houston hosts defending MLS Cup champion Real Salt Lake on Thursday. FC Dallas is off next week, and hosts the Columbus Crew on April 10 in its next match.
